Your Memory Leaves Me Stoned

A dream is spinning round my head

From a night I can’t forget

I should throw out that picture

But I just can’t let go

It’s you and me in Times Square

My head rests on your hair

We look so nice together

If only I had known

Time cracks a fractured mirror

Leaves my heart exposed

Stares from my kitchen table

As I’m dancing with your ghost

A song like a weathered bouquet

Wraps up my old clichés

Do you still think about me

Walking Greenwich streets

I tried, but I still missed the mark

Will I pass you in the park

As you read your school papers

I’ll try to be discreet

Time cracks a fractured mirror

Leaves my heart exposed

Stares from my kitchen table

As I’m dancing with your ghost

And even though you’re gone

I’m still clinging to a memory

A time when we were happy

A time before I knew the truth

I think of words that I might say

Had you not gone away

I confess I miss you

Your memory leaves me stoned.
